Great piece of work out of the 70´s,
handmade by German Luthier
It´s number 6 of a limited run.
Neck-thru design, DiMarzio "Super Distortion" pickups.
It´s massive and heavy as hell but plays like a charm.
Would pick this one over some big shot-factory guitar
any day.
Very cool guitar. I remember the W.Kist guitars. They were high quality instruments and unfortunately outside my financial mean back then. Good Luck with it.
ReplyDeleteAre you sure the name of the guy is Walter Kist ? And if you do, do you have any informations about him or about your sources ? I had the information it was Wolfgang Kist (i have a W.Kist guitar too, rare great piece of work) from frankfort i reckon
ReplyDeleteAs for the question above: I have slim to none info about this Mr. Kist. The previous owner told me it's "Walter" but it might as well be Wolfgang. The interwebs and nets are quite silent when it comes to W. Kist guitars. Sorry that I could not be of much help.
ReplyDeleteI met Walter Kist in the late 1970s in Frankfurt (Frankfurter Musikmesse) and later visited him in his small factory in Bavaria / Germany. 1 year later he stopped the construction of guitars. Why I do not know. I have lost touch.
ReplyDeleteIt´s not Walter, it´s Wolfgang (I'm his grand-niece Audrey Kist)
ReplyDeleteIf you have other pictures, I am interested. I'm collecting information about his work. He did some work in the 80's but not much later and finally gave up.
Hi,
DeleteI'm still playin' my 'double cutaway' Kist guitar with the serial No. 10. You may connect me: stephan@swampmoon.net
The name is Wolfgang KIST it is my uncle and he died in the 90's
ReplyDeleteLaurent KIST
Thank you.
DeleteI'm also playing a W.Kist "Bluesbird" (serial No. 26), which I bought back in 1980. It's a fantastic piece of art that sounds so warm and brilliant. As far as I know, it is the last one of that series. I wonder why there is so little information about his work on the net.
ReplyDeleteYou can contact me: peterfaalstich@hotmail.com
I still have mine (just as above pic, serial#2) after 30 years carrying it around the world. It had been stored the last 20 years in a warehouse in the Caribbean, and I just digged it out recently again for a full makeover. And it is still my favorite, again!!
ReplyDelete20 years of vacation in the Caribbean, wow...
DeleteAll the best and good luck with the makeover.

Hello everybody, i have a rare Höfner guitar from the serie "Venture" flying V guitar, and it seems to be very similar to W. Kist work ... Someone knows if he worked with Höfner, in the early '80s? Here some link for the guitar: https://en-gb.facebook.com/HofnerGuitars/photos/a.207970101144.165738.194324361144/10151772598291145/
ReplyDeleteHi Audrey
ReplyDeleteI have a Hoyer Wolfgang Kist guitar which is my number 1
Unfortunately have no information about him any help welcomed
Cheers
Kevin
Deletebis dann!
